Episode 27 New Pattern, New KAL!

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast.

News:

Thank you all who offered to test knit the Guardian of Air Shawl! I am thrilled to announce my pattern is now published! For the month of October, half of sales will go to SillyFru’s #Crushthesack fund!

I also drew a name for the pattern give away and the winner is entry 2, Cre8vleigh! Thank you to all who participated!

And now for the details of the KAL. I am calling it the Podcaster Sprinkled With Fru Love KAL and here are all the rules:

  • Has to be a Podcaster’s pattern.
  • Has to be started after October 6 and completed by December 15th.
  • You can use any yarn.
  • Entry must use at least 200 yards. You can combine small projects that total 200 or more yards to make 1 entry. This is great if you want to knit some toys!
  • Add an extra entry if your project meets the following criteria:
  • Yarn is from a Podcaster
  • Yarn is donating proceeds to the #Crushthesack fund
  • Pattern is donating to #Crushthesack fund
  • To get your extra entries just post your picture in the picture thread for every entry you have earned.

See the Chat/Prize thread for a list of all the podcaster designers and dyers I could think of. Please add any I have missed!

I knit my shawl with Lost City Knits Twin Canyon Fingering which is a beautiful Merino/Silk blend with 500yards per skein. Lost City Knits Foothills Fingering 100 Merino wool at 560 yards per skein. Sandy and I went to Webs’ Tent Sale!! It was so much fun! Here’s what I got

A Lendrum double treddle complete kit!!!!!! I have been wanting this wheel since I took a spinning class last year at Rhinebeck. We used the Lendrum wheels and they were a dream. I tried other wheels a couple of months ago when I made a stop at Webs and it was by far the best for me.

From Barbara Parry of Made by Foxfire FIber and Designs http://www.foxfirefiber.com/index.html I purchased

5 oz of Shetland bats by Foxfire Fiber and Designs in lavenders and gray/blues to spin on my new wheel!

3 skeins of her hand dyed  Cormo Camel Silk blend in 3 colors. Jade Cloud, Marigold, and Poppy. I have a design in mind for them!

I purchased her book Adventures in Yarn Farming to give to my sister Kim (I’m trying to convince her to get some sheep on her farm in upstate NY) I started reading it last night and it is so fascinating!

I also picked up a beautiful spindle at the Foxfire Fiber and Designs tent and purchased an assortment of items including a spindle. The spindle is named “Damsel Monique” and is Spalted Jamarind wedge and Walnut Shaft. Made by Greensleeves Spindles http://www.greensleevesspindles.com
