Episode 21 Puni Envy

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast.

Please hold on to your washcloths until later in the year. There is an FO thread where you can post a picture of each of your washcloths. Each one you make is a chance to win a prize! I will be announcing prizes that I will provide very shortly and unashamedly ask for any prize donations. They would be very welcome and much appreciated!

Episode 19 Webs’ Tent Sale!

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast. Went on an exciting road trip to Webs‘ Tent Sale and had a great time. I have some special “stash” to share with you all! This is a long one so I am adding some fun pictures to this post rather than having them at the end of the show. (Truth is I forgot to add the pictures and had already exported the movie so you’ll have the music and a blank screen).

Sandy and I went to Webs’ Tent Sale!! It was so much fun! Here’s what I got

A Lendrum double treddle complete kit!!!!!! I have been wanting this wheel since I took a spinning class last year at Rhinebeck. We used the Lendrum wheels and they were a dream. I tried other wheels a couple of months ago when I made a stop at Webs and it was by far the best for me.

From Barbara Parry of Made by Foxfire FIber and Designs http://www.foxfirefiber.com/index.html I purchased

I purchased her book Adventures in Yarn Farming to give to my sister Kim (I’m trying to convince her to get some sheep on her farm in upstate NY) I started reading it last night and it is so fascinating!

I also picked up a beautiful spindle at the Foxfire Fiber and Designs tent and purchased an assortment of items including a spindle. The spindle is named “Damsel Monique” and is Spalted Jamarind wedge and Walnut Shaft. Made by Greensleeves Spindles http://www.greensleevesspindles.com

Episode 18 Road Trip and Lakeside Knitting

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast. It’s been a few weeks but I’m back now with a huge FO and a couple of WIPs. It wouldn’t be a knitting podcast without a few stash enhancements either, now would it???

Friendly reminder that my Senior Love Along continues on this year.  I am collecting cotton wash clothes to hand out to seniors living in homes during the holiday season. Please hold on to your washcloths until then. There is an FO thread where you can post a picture of each of your washcloths. Each one you make is a chance to win a prize! Toatie Hottie by Kate Davies Designs. Love this cute little cozy. I bought the kit from Kate’s shop in the Madder and Cream colors

These are the only 2 WIPs I have to show because I had been working almost exclusively one project since I last podcast and that project is…..

The Event Horizon Shawl which I finished minutes before I recorded the podcast! I was on vacation a whole week and hardly knit! Unbelievable isn’t it? Still I managed to finish this amazing Pi Shawl Using String Theory Hand Dyed Caper Sock Yarn. Boy was this yarn yummy! I want to knit another but alas I have to knit my Rhinebeck Sweaters now. If you want to make one Donna Druchunus is starting another KAL soon and String Theory has kits available.

Quite small compared to my Event Horizon Shawl but still very loved are my finished Collywobles socks by Fibretown Designs. This is a great pattern for variegated colored yarns and lots of fun to knit. I used Desert Vista Dyeworks Voir yarn in the color Cottage Garden. My only wish is that I had made them a little longer up the calf. Like with 2 extra repeats of the pattern. I had plenty of yarn left to do this. Oh well, still love them!

Shash Enhancements:

Got me some new needles on my way to visit family for Easter. I had forgot to grab a DPN to knit the border on my Event Horizon Shawl and on top of that lost a DPN at a restaurant so I couldn’t work on my socks either! I begged my sisters to take a very minor detour to the Yarn Explosion in Roanoke, VA. The service was super lovely and I would love to stop again next time I visit my family out that way.

I purchased Hiya Hiya DPNs for the shawl border and Knitter’s Pride Dreamz DPNs for the socks. Love them both!

I also picked up another skein of Opal Sock Yarn in color way that I have no clue. I can’t find one listed on the label but the numbers are Farbe 3200 and Partie 862

We also stopped at a JoAnne store so I checked out their stock of Patons Kroy Sock yarn and they had a terrific variety of colors! I got

2 pairs worth of Blue Striped Ragg

Sing N the Blues Stripes

Rusty Stripes

Cameo Colors Fx

And let us not forget 2 sets of Signature DPNs! 2.25 and 2.50!! My absolute favs!

I got a lot done today and am very pleased. I actually finished most of the Baby Kimono last night. Just need to block and add ribbon. This is a great quick and easy baby gift to make. I will keep this pattern handy for future babys. I will try to get a picture of DJ’s son wearing the sweater up here eventually, because we all know it’s the Babies we want to see. They are so precious!

I also finished the Emma Peel dress for Victoria. The yarn arrived on Friday and even though it was of a different lot, it blended wonderfully. You can’t see any difference. This is another great quick and easy gift for little girls. Easy yet just interesting enough not to be boring. Great project! I also liked the Classic Elite Pebbles. It was a great yarn to work with. It even frogged well. This was important as a couple of miscounts made me have to frog a few times in the same spot. The yarn was still full and fluffy. Not ‘beat up’ from being frogged so many times.

I don’t know when I will see Victoria to give her this gift. It is already too late for her birthday which was in January.  I am sure before the summer. I am going to pair it with a pair of leggings and a nice t-shirt to wear underneath. I will of course have pictures of her posing. She is very good at posing!

So I ask myself what is next. Well there are plenty of exciting projects. First and foremost I have resolved to finish my MIL’s Color Your Own Sweater so that will be my number one focus now.

I also have the yarn to start my daughter Rachael’s Autumn Rose. I may cast this on just to have something to work on once in a while. I will also work on tweaking the charts. I hate the way they chart the pattern. It is silly if you ask me. So small there is  not possible way I can follow it! Must create my own and I prefer to use colored charts with the color letter in the box, not some silly symbol. So I will polish that up and print it out so I can get moving on that.

Lets not forget the Alba Jacket! This is the project that has become the most anticipated. It will be my first Starmore pattern and definitely  a step up for me as far as skills are concerned. I intend to take my time with it and do an impeccable job.  VERY excited about this! When the yarn does come I will knit up a swatch for gauge, but then it will have to wait until I finish the CYO. It will be my incentive.

We are expecting a storm here in the North East and that means good knitting weather!

chao for now!

Did run out of yarn :(

I did run out of the Pebbles. I ordered a skein from Webs and hopefully they have my dye lot so I can finish this pretty dress. I was able to finish the back and a little up the front.

I decided to bang out the Baby Kimono from Mason-Dixon Knitting  for DJ’s new baby while I wait for the Pebbles to come in from WEBS. I cast it on last night and was able to get a good bit done before going to bed.

I have a feeling this will be done in not time at all. It is so soft! I am using Reynolds Rapture that I had in my stash. Only thing is I know it will be a pain to keep clean and must be hand washed. I will throw in a little bottle of Kukuburo for them to clean it with.

I am still waiting for the package to arrive from Camilla Valley Farms so I can knit up my swatch for the Alba Jacket. Maybe it will come today and I can work on that tonight? I plan on sticking with my vow to not start the Alba until the fair Isle for my MIL is done though. Just the swatch tonight then I start working seriously on the Color Your Own Fair Isle from Philosopher’s Wool. It is actually the banner picture at the top of my blog. I love the colors and being a worsted weight sweater I think I can get it done in a month or 2 for sure.

That’s it for now. Happy knitting everyone!
