Victoria in the Emma Peel Dress

Just got home from a wonderful evening with friends. Brings it home how lucky we are and what is truly important in life. We had a wonderful time and as I suspected Victoria couldn’t wait to try on her new dress. So without further delay, Here is Victoria showing us the Emma Peel dress!

The other day I showed my delight in receiving my package with the yarn for my Alba Jacket. As you may have guessed, I knit up a swatch right away. Stayed up until 1 am because I couldn’t wait to see how the colors look together. And…..I don’t like it ūüė¶ ¬†It is just not right. ¬†Please tell me what you think. I can’t really afford to buy more yarn. I think the problem is the Prussian Blue is too ‘bright’ for all the warm colors I picked. Here is a picture of the swatch.¬†

The Prussian blue is that bright blue in the background of the browns. ¬†All together I just don’t think it transitions nicely. It looks different then it did when I knit it with the Spindrift. Here was the original swatch.

Here I used a charcole grey instead of Prussian Blue. Sigh….I will try to figure something out using the colors I have. I will have to think on this.

I continue to swatch for Marc’s Duxbury Pullover. I just started the cable swatch. I will post some pictures when it is done. It is dawning on me that it will take a long time to get it done. It is a fingering weight yarn I am knitting it with, but I think I will enjoy the pattern very much and the yarn is beautiful. It is Simply Shetland Silk Lambswool.

Check it out!

I got a lot done today and am very pleased. I actually finished most of the Baby Kimono last night. Just need to block and add ribbon. This is a great quick and easy baby gift to make. I will keep this pattern handy for future babys. I will try to get a picture of DJ’s son wearing the sweater up here eventually, because we all know it’s the Babies we want to see. They are so precious!

I also finished the Emma Peel dress for Victoria. The yarn arrived on Friday and even though it was of a different lot, it blended wonderfully. You can’t see any difference. This is another great quick and easy gift for little girls. Easy yet just interesting enough not to be boring. Great project! I also liked the Classic Elite Pebbles. It was a great yarn to work with. It even frogged well. This was important as a couple of miscounts made me have to frog a few times in the same spot. The yarn was still full and fluffy. Not ‘beat up’ from being frogged so many times.

I don’t know when I will see Victoria to give her this gift. It is already too late for her birthday which was in January. ¬†I am sure before the summer. I am going to pair it with a pair of leggings and a nice t-shirt to wear underneath. I will of course have pictures of her posing. She is very good at posing!

So I ask myself what is next. Well there are plenty of exciting projects. First and foremost I have resolved to finish my MIL’s Color Your Own Sweater so that will be my number one focus now.

I also have the yarn to start my daughter Rachael’s Autumn Rose. I may cast this on just to have something to work on once in a while. I will also work on tweaking the charts. I hate the way they chart the pattern. It is silly if you ask me. So small there is ¬†not possible way I can follow it! Must create my own and I prefer to use colored charts with the color letter in the box, not some silly symbol. So I will polish that up and print it out so I can get moving on that.

Lets not forget the Alba Jacket! This is the project that has become the most anticipated. It will be my first Starmore pattern and definitely  a step up for me as far as skills are concerned. I intend to take my time with it and do an impeccable job.  VERY excited about this! When the yarn does come I will knit up a swatch for gauge, but then it will have to wait until I finish the CYO. It will be my incentive.

We are expecting a storm here in the North East and that means good knitting weather!

chao for now!

May run out of yarn

I am almost done with the Emma Peel dress for Victoria and I am almost certain I will run out of yarn. I went ahead and ordered more from Webs. I just hope the lots aren’t¬†noticeably¬†different.

I am also very excited about starting some new projects. I have ordered lots of new yarns and have received a lot of it already. All will be used to knit projects in my 2009 plan.

First package was from Knit Picks. I ordered their Palette yarns to make the Autumn Rose Sweater for Rachael.

You can see the swatch I knit this weekend using US2 which is what the pattern suggests. I had to go all the way up to 5s and I am still not getting gauge. I wonder if it is the yarn? I really don’t want to go higher than 5. I also think my sweater will have more tension than the swatch and it will be fine. I will get started on this maybe next weekend. I would like to finish the Emma Peel dress and get started on the Baby Kimono first.

I also bought some Simply Shetland¬†Silk &¬†Lambswool in¬†Ardvreck colorway. It is a beautiful coppery brown perfect for Marc! ¬†I was able to get it at a huge discount through the sale at Suzoo’s Wool Works. Great prices and free shipping!

I will not start this till much later. Marc’s birthday is not until December, so I have plenty of time.¬†

I am still waiting for the Jamieson’s DK from Camilla Valley Farms. As soon as that comes in I will knit up a swatch for gauge on the Alba Jacket. Can’t wait to see how that comes out! ¬†I have made a commitment to finish the Fair Isle sweater for my MIL before I start the Alba Jacket. I really need to get that thing done. I think it will be very uplifting for my MIL. She has been in a slump lately.¬†

Lots of new stuff coming on the needles soon!

Keeping with my plans

I made a tentative plan for 2009 and by golly, I’m sticking with it! I have started knitting the Emma Peel dress for little Victoria. I cast on last night and got a lot done. I think this will be a quick knit. I am knitting it in the round. I really like this Pebbles Classic Elite Yarn. I have never knit with cotton before, but it’s not so bad. It slides quickly on my Addis. I think it will end up being a cute dress. Here it is so far.

I finally finished the Wave socks. Finished them during the Super Bowl the other night. That was a great game BTW. It was a learning experience and did not come out perfect. So, what did I learn?

  • When knitting multicolored socks, keep the stranded wool very loose in the back otherwise it will be difficult to get on
  • Don’t knit while sleepy. You may mess up the pattern.
  • check the number of stitches every once and a while
  • Don’t knit during a good football game

Here I am modeling them.

I am very excited about receiving a ball winder and swift today. I bought it from someone on Ravelry for a great buy! It was like getting the Ball winder for free. I am very grateful for this. It will come in very handy and it can be pricy. The swift is even wood.
