New Stuff on the Needles

I managed to get some knitting in this weekend. Not as much as I had thought, but a nice amount. I started off by winding all my hanks of yarn from my Luskentyre kit from Virtual Yarns. I was totally loving all the beautiful colors. I thought I would be able to get all the winding done and the swatch, but that was not happening. Took me all night to wind the yarn.

I am sure everyone that has knit with her yarns will say that pictures don’t do her colors justice. They have a luminescence to them. My favorite colors from this kit are Golden Plover and Machair, but they are all stunning. So here is the picture of the swatch done on US2. Only had to go down one size.

I also managed to get a start on Rachael’s Autumn Rose finally. It is now officially on the needles.

Just the beginning

Just the beginning

Not much to look at yet. Just had time to get some of the ribbing done, but at least it is started. Once I get this a good way along, I will start something else.

New Beginnings

This week has been the week of new starts. Although I did not knit much this week, I did get a little in. For starters, I was able to get my Mr Foster sock monkey started. This is a kit that Knit Picks was selling and the kits sold out in less than 2 weeks! Glad I got mine. I think he is adorable. Here are his 2 arms. I know. Not much to look at yet.

I actually had a rough start with the arms but was able to get help on the KAL forum at the Knit Picks Ning site. I am actually learning new techniques by knitting this little guy. Figure 8 cast on is one of them.  I am really enjoying this!  I have decided I am going to put some wire in Mr Foster to make him posable.

The other thing I started was the body of my Color Your Own sweater for my MIL. I am forcing myself to trudge along with this project. I will be more exciting once I start with the color work. I am hoping to get this done quick. I know my first one didn’t take long at all.

I still have not gotten my package from Camilla Valley Farms! I am getting so anxious. It has been 3 weeks since she sent it. If I don’t get it today I am going to give her a call. Hopefully she has some tracking on it and kind find out where the package is.

I have not started Rachael’s Autumn Rose (AR) yet. I may get that on the needles this weekend. I did get all my charts made up though. I have the entire sweater color charted on my computer specific to her size. This will make it a lot easier. The charts in the book are so small it is ridiculous!

Not much to talk about. Hopefully I will be posting my Alba color swatch soon and showing you the beginnings of the AR.

Check it out!

I got a lot done today and am very pleased. I actually finished most of the Baby Kimono last night. Just need to block and add ribbon. This is a great quick and easy baby gift to make. I will keep this pattern handy for future babys. I will try to get a picture of DJ’s son wearing the sweater up here eventually, because we all know it’s the Babies we want to see. They are so precious!

I also finished the Emma Peel dress for Victoria. The yarn arrived on Friday and even though it was of a different lot, it blended wonderfully. You can’t see any difference. This is another great quick and easy gift for little girls. Easy yet just interesting enough not to be boring. Great project! I also liked the Classic Elite Pebbles. It was a great yarn to work with. It even frogged well. This was important as a couple of miscounts made me have to frog a few times in the same spot. The yarn was still full and fluffy. Not ‘beat up’ from being frogged so many times.

I don’t know when I will see Victoria to give her this gift. It is already too late for her birthday which was in January.  I am sure before the summer. I am going to pair it with a pair of leggings and a nice t-shirt to wear underneath. I will of course have pictures of her posing. She is very good at posing!

So I ask myself what is next. Well there are plenty of exciting projects. First and foremost I have resolved to finish my MIL’s Color Your Own Sweater so that will be my number one focus now.

I also have the yarn to start my daughter Rachael’s Autumn Rose. I may cast this on just to have something to work on once in a while. I will also work on tweaking the charts. I hate the way they chart the pattern. It is silly if you ask me. So small there is  not possible way I can follow it! Must create my own and I prefer to use colored charts with the color letter in the box, not some silly symbol. So I will polish that up and print it out so I can get moving on that.

Lets not forget the Alba Jacket! This is the project that has become the most anticipated. It will be my first Starmore pattern and definitely  a step up for me as far as skills are concerned. I intend to take my time with it and do an impeccable job.  VERY excited about this! When the yarn does come I will knit up a swatch for gauge, but then it will have to wait until I finish the CYO. It will be my incentive.

We are expecting a storm here in the North East and that means good knitting weather!

chao for now!

May run out of yarn

I am almost done with the Emma Peel dress for Victoria and I am almost certain I will run out of yarn. I went ahead and ordered more from Webs. I just hope the lots aren’t noticeably different.

I am also very excited about starting some new projects. I have ordered lots of new yarns and have received a lot of it already. All will be used to knit projects in my 2009 plan.

First package was from Knit Picks. I ordered their Palette yarns to make the Autumn Rose Sweater for Rachael.

You can see the swatch I knit this weekend using US2 which is what the pattern suggests. I had to go all the way up to 5s and I am still not getting gauge. I wonder if it is the yarn? I really don’t want to go higher than 5. I also think my sweater will have more tension than the swatch and it will be fine. I will get started on this maybe next weekend. I would like to finish the Emma Peel dress and get started on the Baby Kimono first.

I also bought some Simply Shetland Silk & Lambswool in Ardvreck colorway. It is a beautiful coppery brown perfect for Marc!  I was able to get it at a huge discount through the sale at Suzoo’s Wool Works. Great prices and free shipping!

I will not start this till much later. Marc’s birthday is not until December, so I have plenty of time.

I am still waiting for the Jamieson’s DK from Camilla Valley Farms. As soon as that comes in I will knit up a swatch for gauge on the Alba Jacket. Can’t wait to see how that comes out!  I have made a commitment to finish the Fair Isle sweater for my MIL before I start the Alba Jacket. I really need to get that thing done. I think it will be very uplifting for my MIL. She has been in a slump lately.

Lots of new stuff coming on the needles soon!
