Episode 28 All The Knitter Ladies

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast.

This is a brief Pre Rhinebeck episode

News:

I will be at The NY Sheep and Wool Festival  in Rhinebeck both days and would love to see you! I can’t make the podcaster meet-up because I have a 1pm class but I will go to that area at 12:30 if anyone wants to come by.

Big update on the Senior Love Along! I have set the date with the event person at the Veteran’s Administration Nursing Home in Montrose, NY and we are all set to hand out the washcloths on December 20. I am asking for all washcloths to be sent to me by Thanksgiving. If you can, wrap your washcloth with a nice ribbon so it looks like a gift.  If you can’t don’t worry about it, I have lots of volunteers that will help me with that.

BIG REQUEST: I don’t have enough washcloths. There are 250 beds at the VA Nursing Home, so I need over 100 more washcloths that are gender neutral. Please spread the word!

Episode 25 Designer Interview

Hello all! Welcome to the Hudson Valley Knits Podcast. I hope you enjoy my chat with colorwork Designer Deborah Tomasello of PatchworksByDebi at the end of a podcast. She is donating a pattern to give away!

News:

I’m going to come right out and say it. I need more test knitters. I only have 2 so far and would like at least 2 more. There is a thread with all the details in my Ravelry group so please go check it out if you are interested in test knitting. I knit my shawl with Lost City Knits Twin Canyon Fingering which is a beautiful Merino/Silk blend with 500yards per skein. Lost City Knits Foothills Fingering 100 Merino wool at 560 yards per skein. Another luscious yarn that is little less expensive but still beautiful.

Senior Love Along is getting closer!  I am collecting cotton wash clothes to hand out to seniors living in homes during the holiday season. Please hold on to your washcloths until later in the year. There is an FO thread where you can post a picture of each of your washcloths. Each one you make is a chance to win a prize! Check out the chat thread to see pictures of all the lovely prizes!

World’s Largest Swatch

Getting ready for winter knitting and pulled out my husband’s fisherman’s sweater which has been put away for quite a while. The sweater body is coming out a lot smaller than my gauge swatches led me to believe. I knit all the different patterns separately when swatching so it’s possible they were off. I had Marc try it on and it is very tight all around yet I calculated it for 4″ of ease! I also should be starting the armholes but I still have a couple of inches before I get there. This really bites.

Marc says he doesn’t care, but I don’t want him wearing something that looks like crap. To be sure I don’t mess it up again I gave it a soak and hung it outside to dry. Now I am measuring 15 inches across all the cable patterns and my seed st on the edge is 3 1/8″ for 10sts. So there you have it. The world’s largest swatch!

PS Learn from my mistake and don’t try to save yarn when swatching. You really need to repeat the pattern a couple of times in each direction to get a correct gauge. Lesson learned.
